Abstract: A commutative ring can be thought of as a generalization of a field by relaxing the condition of having multiplicative inverses. Fields have only one ideal, but rings may have many (often infinitely many) ideals. Several important properties of a ringaredetermined by its ideals. In this talk, we will introduce how to define (Krull) dimension of a ring and how to define "nice" rings which are in some sense as close as possible to fields. If time permits, we will introduce a couple of conjectures. |
